Population is the city proper as counted in the 2021 census round, taken from each country's own statistical institute; the reference dates differ (Romania censused on 1 December 2021, Bulgaria on 7 September 2021) because the censuses do, and neither figure is a current estimate. GDP per capita is Eurostat's NUTS 3 figure in euro per inhabitant at current market prices for 2023, the latest year that is final for both cities. 2024 is published but flagged provisional for Bucharest, and pairing a provisional year against a final one would compare the vintages rather than the cities. The values are nominal euro, not PPS, so they are not adjusted for the large price-level difference between the two countries and overstate the real gap.
