Belgrade Metro Line 1, Phase 1

First line of the Belgrade metro. The whole of Line 1 is 21.3 km with 21 stations and 13 evacuation and ventilation shafts, plus the Makiš depot. Phase 1 is 15.4 km with 15 stations: part on the surface or cut and cover, and tunnel from Bele Vode towards the centre, with about 11 km bored by two TBMs. The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure splits the design-and-build work into seven contracts, five of them with Power Construction Corporation of China: Makiš depot, Lots 1 to 3 of phase 1 and phase 2. Lots 1 and 2 are under way, and the Lot 3 contract was signed on 18 September 2026.

Sections of Belgrade Metro Line 1, Phase 1: status, length, dates, cost, funding and contractors

Line 1, phase 1 (Lots 1 to 3)

Phase 1 is let as three design-and-build lots to Power Construction Corporation of China, signed under an intergovernmental agreement between Serbia and China. The Lot 3 contract was signed on 18 September 2026, completing the construction contracting of phase 1. No per-lot length or section limits were found in the sources, so the three lots are one lot here. MGSI gives contract commencement dates of 10 January 2025 for Lots 1 and 2 and 12 January 2025 for the Makiš depot; these are contract dates, not recorded as a construction start. Contract values excluding VAT: depot EUR 210 million, Lot 1 EUR 20.34 million (design, works and preparation for TBM procurement), Lot 2 EUR 20 million; Lot 3 was not priced on the MGSI page. These are separate contracts, so none is recorded as a cost of this lot. The Makiš depot, which will run Lines 1 and 2, is not drawn and its length is not counted. Metro systems and trains are procured separately; MGSI lists Alstom for the phase 1 transport systems contract, which it expected to sign in the second quarter of 2025, and the Telegraf report says only that systems and trains have been contracted. Two TBMs left China in August 2026 for Belgrade, expected in Europe by October, to excavate about 11 km of tunnel. Phase 2 (the rest of Line 1, which MGSI expects to contract with Power Construction Corporation of China and Alstom) has no stated length or extent and is not modelled. Geometry is a single OpenStreetMap way tagged as Line 1 (railway=proposed, with a mapper's note that it is under construction and due 2030), 16.5 km as drawn against 15.4 km recorded, with the mapper's geometry source given as the bgmetro.rs phase 1 page. The recorded length is the sourced figure.

A section that lists two sources counts its full length under each: the data records which sources paid, not what share each one carried.
