| Larissa – Volos (electrification, signalling, new alignment into Volos) Overhead contact line on the 61.5 km single-track Larissa – Volos line, a traction substation at Rizomylos connected to the ADMIE grid, remote-controlled signalling with ETCS level 1, renovation of the stations (Chalki, Melia, Kipseli, Armenio, Veletino, Latomeio, Volos), a new stop at the Volos industrial area, and a new single-track standard-gauge alignment of about 10 km from km 49+184, before Latomeio, to km 59+677 at Volos station, replacing the disused metre-gauge line. ERGOSE gives EUR 49.33 million excluding VAT, planned 2022–2025, and its page says the project is in progress. Its contracts register lists contract 736 with INTRAKAT for EUR 41.17 million, signed on 4 May 2022, with 2.9% of the value (EUR 1.20 million) executed (register undated). The first deadlines expired on 28 July 2026; press on 25 and 29 September 2026 reports that the contractor asked for an extension to September 2027 for the first contract and May 2028 for the second, and cites a regional official expecting trains in spring 2029. The same press describes a separate infrastructure contract for the Larissa – Latomeio stretch, about 50 km, with a budget of EUR 146.5 million, and says EUR 51.4 million of funding is secured for the systems and the new alignment; those figures are press reports and are not recorded as costs. ERGOSE gives 2022 as the construction start. OpenStreetMap shows the new alignment as under construction (with a tunnel and a bridge) and the line as not yet electrified. The drawn line starts at Larissa station, after the junction with the main line. | Under construction | 62 km |
