Niš – Brestovac Railway Reconstruction
Reconstruction of the 22.8 km Niš – Brestovac section of mainline 102 (Corridor X south of Niš), funded with more than EUR 44 million of EU IPA funds. Infrastruktura železnice Srbije stated on 24 September 2026 that an internal commission checking the reconstructed line found defects the contractors are still fixing. Passenger service at up to 120 km/h will start only once the line meets all safety and technical conditions. Freight trains ran throughout the works.

| Niš – Brestovac Works: new substructure and superstructure, rails and sleepers, catenary, signalling and lighting, and eight new bridges, the longest 180 m over the South Morava. Both builders are Bulgarian companies chosen at an international tender. Supervision by a consortium led by Italferr. Status is kept at under construction: no opening date is recorded because passenger service has not started. No construction start date is sourced. Length 22.8 km is the figure given by Infrastruktura železnice Srbije; the geometry runs from Niš station and measures 24.3 km.
