A5 Ionia Odos (Antirrio – Ioannina)

Runs from the Rio–Antirrio Bridge to the east portal of the Klokova tunnel, with the Antirrio interchange and the twin-tube Makyneia tunnel (600 m per Greek Wikipedia, 500 m per Ypodomes). Ypodomes gives the section as 6.5 km; it lagged behind because of unfinished expropriations, mainly around Riza. After the November 2013 amendment, Dragados and Ferrovial Agroman ceded their remaining construction share to Terna.

Runs from the Klokova tunnel to the Chaliki interchange at the southern end of the Agrinio bypass, past the Gavrolimni, Evinochori and Missolonghi interchanges and the Kalydona tunnel (900 m). The twin-tube Klokova tunnel (2,900 m) opened with this section; it was excavated from both ends from May 2015 and broken through on 28 June 2016. English Wikipedia gives this opening as 37 km, Klokova – Kefalovryso; the 40 km figure is the Greek article's.

Built by the state outside the concession and maintained by Nea Odos; no tolls are collected on it during the concession. Carries the Chaliki, Agios Ilias, Angelokastro, Rigani and Kouvaras interchanges and the 200 m Acheloos bridge. English Wikipedia and the BENEFIT case study give 33 km.

The Amfilochia bypass, with the Amvrakia interchange (A52 to Aktio). Due by July 2016, it opened in December after landslides near the Amfilochia interchange.

Its opening made the motorway continuous from Antirrio to Perdika. The section includes the relocated Kompoti interchange, moved 3.5 km south of the old junction where the 2011 Arta bypass section began.

Southern half of the Arta bypass, built by the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works (YPEHODE) and maintained by Nea Odos. It opened in April 2011 without the bridge of the Arta interchange (950 m), which opened on 22 November 2013.

Northern half of the Arta bypass and the first part of the Ionia Odos to open, built by the ministry (YPEHODE) and maintained by Nea Odos. The Filippiada interchange was moved 1 km north when the motorway was completed.

New alignment with the Ammotopos, Gorgomylos and Terovo interchanges. Perdika was a temporary terminal until the link to the Egnatia Odos opened. English Wikipedia gives this opening as 37 km, Kampi (Filippiada interchange) – Avgo.

Includes the Avgo interchange and the 950 m Ampelia tunnel. Opened later than the section to the south because of delays in land expropriation. Ends at the Pedini interchange with the A2 Egnatia Odos, where the concession ends.

Contracting authority: Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. New alignment west of Ioannina, chainage km 4+800 to km 51+237.37, from the Ionia Odos – Egnatia Odos interchange (K0) where the concession ends to the Kalpaki interchange (K6), with the Kosmira – Asvestochori, Grammenochoria, Zitsa and Karyes interchanges. The Passaronas interchange (K3, km 21+940 – 23+441) is contract option 1. Its largest structure is a 560 m, 14-span bridge over the Egnatia Odos. Expected opening is the 54-month contract deadline of 18 June 2029. Voria.gr and Insider.gr report a budget of EUR 310 million including VAT but disagree on whether it includes the options.

Upgrade of the existing road to a 2+1 cross-section, chainage km 51+237.37 to km 74+349.66, from the Kalpaki interchange to the Kakavia border crossing, with interchanges at Doliana, Ravenia, Vissani, Delvinaki, Zavrocho, Ktismata and Kakavia. It is option 2 of the AVAX contract signed on 18 December 2024; options may be activated within 24 months of signature. Option 2 is budgeted at EUR 66 million including 24% VAT. The ministry put the environmental study to public consultation in April 2026; activation needs environmental approval and a ministerial decision.
