Podłęże – Piekiełko new line and line 104 Chabówka – Nowy Sącz rebuild

PKP PLK's largest programme in southern Poland: the rebuild and electrification of the 75 km line 104 Chabówka – Nowy Sącz, and a new line 622 (with the 623 branch) from Podłęże near Kraków through Gdów and Szczyrzyc to Tymbark, about 58 km of new track and 20 tunnels in all. Each lot is one PLK contract or tender, six on line 104 and four on the new lines. The design contract of 7 January 2019 (PLN 180 million, consortium led by Egis Rail) is not a lot. PLK gives the whole programme as about PLN 17 billion gross and the full Kraków – Nowy Sącz link for 2030. The line 104 lots are rebuilds of an existing line; the line 622 and 623 lots are new-build. Not drawn: the Podłęże – Podłęże Balachówka link (627) and the Porąbka – Stróża link (628). The lots on lines 622 and 623 that are only tendered are drawn from OpenStreetMap ways tagged proposed.

Line 104 Chabówka – Rabka Zaryte (rebuild)

Rebuild and electrification of the existing single-track line 104 between Chabówka and Rabka Zaryte, in a corrected alignment with new bridges, viaducts and roads; trains up to 100 km/h. PLK dates the start of works to 2023 without a month. Trains reached Rabka-Zdrój on 31 August 2025 and Rabka Zaryte on 14 December 2025, after almost 20 years without passenger service. Net contract value as stated by PLK: just under PLN 370 million. No section length is stated in the sources. Length measured from OpenStreetMap geometry.

Line 104 Rabka Zaryte – Mszana Dolna – Fornale (rebuild)

Rebuild and electrification of line 104 for 120 km/h, with 66 engineering structures including 14 bridges and 5 viaducts, and new platforms at Raba Niżna, Mszana Dolna Marki and Mszana Dolna station. The section is about 15 km. An earlier contract of 13 October 2023 for Rabka Zaryte – Mszana Dolna (PLK: almost PLN 430 million) was terminated by PLK because the contractor kept missing the schedule; the releases do not name that contractor or give the termination date, so neither is recorded. Trains ran at 30 km/h and only occasionally on the old track. PLK gives no start date for the new contract's works but reported them under way on 6 October 2025. About 15.3 km drawn from OpenStreetMap, with a 0.2 km straight link across a gap in the mapped ways near Rabka Zaryte.

Line 104 Limanowa station (rebuild)

Rebuild of Limanowa station and 3.5 km of track, partly in a new alignment for 160 km/h, with two platforms, an underpass with lifts, viaducts and bridges. PLK dates the start of works to September 2024 (release of 17 February 2025) and, later, to mid-2024. On 10 August 2026 PLK said the station was nearly finished, at about PLN 330 million gross, and that the first trains would call there in 2027, once the Pisarzowa tunnel is complete. That 2027 date is PLK's, for trains, and is used as the expected opening.

Line 104 Limanowa – Klęczany siding, with the Pisarzowa tunnel (rebuild, new alignment)

Rebuild and electrification of more than 12.5 km of track between Limanowa and the Klęczany siding, largely in a new alignment for 160 km/h, with 10 viaducts, 12 bridges and new stops at Mordarka and Chomranice. The Pisarzowa tunnel between Mordarka and Męcina is 3,750 m long, the longest railway tunnel in Poland according to PLK; the TBM "Jadwiga" finished boring it on 14 April 2026, with an escape tunnel beside it. PLK said on 10 August 2026 that first trains reach Limanowa in 2027, after the tunnel is finished. The siding is not a mapped node: the cut with the next lot is placed by chainage so that this lot (12.5 km) and the next (12.6 km) agree with the drawn track within 6%. Length of the drawn track: 12.7 km.

Line 104 Klęczany siding – Nowy Sącz (rebuild)

Rebuild and electrification of line 104 from the Klęczany siding to Nowy Sącz for 120 km/h: 12.6 km of track replaced, a new Dunajec railway bridge, grade-separated crossings at Kolejowa and Krakowska streets, a two-platform Marcinkowice station and rebuilt stops at Nowy Sącz Chełmiec and Nowy Sącz Miasto. PLK put the cost at about PLN 780 million at opening. Passenger trains run Nowy Sącz – Marcinkowice (about 11 minutes) from Sunday 14 June 2026; the release describes the whole section to the Klęczany siding as rebuilt and handed over. The cut with the previous lot is placed by chainage (the siding is not a mapped node). Length of the drawn track: 13.2 km.

Line 104 Tymbark – Limanowa (rebuild, partly new alignment)

Rebuild and electrification of line 104 between Tymbark and Limanowa (station excluded), partly in a new alignment for up to 150 km/h, with a tunnel and an escape structure between Tymbark and Koszary, a viaduct of about 2 km into Limanowa, a new stop at Koszary and a rebuilt Tymbark station. The same contract also builds a piece of new line 622 out of Tymbark towards Szczyrzyc: PLK counts 14 km of new track and 17 bridges and viaducts in total, so the 14 km is not used as this lot's length. The 622 piece is drawn here as the last 2.2 km west of Tymbark: its extent is inferred, because the sources give no chainage, from where the OpenStreetMap ways of the Szczyrzyc – Tymbark contract (the two tunnels of 3.8 and 1 km, 8 km in all) end. Signed 12 March 2026 for PLN 1.6 billion gross; PLK still described the Limanowa end as to be rebuilt on 10 August 2026, and no construction start is recorded. Length measured from OpenStreetMap geometry: 7.7 km on line 104 and 2.2 km on line 622.

Line 622 Podłęże – Gdów (new line)

New double-track line from the Kraków – Rzeszów main line (E30) between Węgrzce Wielkie and Podłęże, over the A4 motorway on viaducts, to Gdów station near Marszowice, with a twin-nave tunnel of more than 900 m, 42 engineering structures (the longest over 1,300 m), 33 grade-separated crossings, a new Podłęże Balachówka station and stops at Zagórze near Niepołomice and Wiatowice. PLK states about 20 km of new double track, which includes the Podłęże – Podłęże Balachówka link (line 627); the tender of 18 January 2025 named both the Podłęże – Gdów and Podłęże – Podłęże Balachówka lines. The drawn main line to Gdów is 16.3 km, 19% shorter, which matches Gdów at km 16.317 of line 622 on plwiki; the link is not drawn. First trains Kraków – Gdów are planned for 2030. The sources give no construction start, so none is recorded. The value is gross; the PLN 3 billion quoted by the minister is a rounded figure.

Line 622 Szczyrzyc – Tymbark (new line)

The first stretch of entirely new line 622: 8 km linking the new Szczyrzyc station with Tymbark, single track for 160 km/h passenger and 120 km/h freight trains, with two tunnels (3.8 km and 1 km), bridges and viaducts, all crossings grade-separated, and a new stop at Stróża koło Dobrej. PLK gives completion as mid-2029. The sources give no chainage, so the extent is drawn from the OpenStreetMap ways tagged as construction that carry the two tunnels (3.84 and 1.15 km): from the point where line 623 leaves line 622 south of Szczyrzyc station to the east end of the long tunnel, 7.9 km against the 8 km PLK states. The 1.4 km stub from the station to that point is drawn in the Fornale – Szczyrzyc lot, and the last 2.2 km into Tymbark in the Tymbark – Limanowa lot, which also builds a piece of line 622 out of Tymbark. Both cuts are inferred from the mapped tagging and the sourced length.

Line 622 Gdów – Szczyrzyc (new line, tender)

Almost 16 km of double track between Gdów and Szczyrzyc, with two tunnels of almost 2.4 km in total, viaducts, bridges and a structure over 850 m long, Szczyrzyc station and stops at Zręczyce and Gruszów; 160 km/h. PLK calls it the last section of the programme. The tender was launched on 30 June 2026 and no contract is recorded. OpenStreetMap shows this stretch almost entirely as railway=proposed, not as construction, so the drawn line is a planned alignment; it is 15.3 km, with a 0.1 km straight link across a gap in the mapped ways.

Line 623 Fornale – Szczyrzyc with the Porąbka – Stróża link (new line, tender)

13 km of new track in foothill terrain between Fornale and Szczyrzyc (line 623) and on the Porąbka – Stróża link (line 628), with six tunnels of more than 3.6 km in total, viaducts and a new Kasina Wielka Północna station. PLK calls it the last part of the rebuilt line 104 to be built in a new alignment. The tender was launched on 30 April 2026 and no contract is recorded. Only the line 623 stretch is drawn, from OpenStreetMap ways tagged proposed (10.8 km, 17% shorter than the sourced 13 km), including the 1.4 km of line 622 from Szczyrzyc station to the point where line 623 branches off; the link is not in the OpenStreetMap data used.
