Frontieră – Curtici – Simeria railway rehabilitation (Corridor IV)

Rehabilitation of the double-track main line from the Hungarian border at Curtici through Arad and Radna to Simeria, the western part of the Romanian branch of Pan-European Corridor IV, for 160 km/h passenger and 120 km/h freight traffic with ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 signalling. Section 1 (border–Curtici–Arad–km 614, 41.185 km) was completed in 2016. Sections 2 (km 614–Gurasada) and 3 (Gurasada–Simeria) received RON 9.5 billion (about €2 billion) of financing, 75% of it from the Cohesion Fund, and are still in execution; they aim to cut the Arad–Simeria journey from 146 to 74 minutes.
