Basarab Overpass, Bucharest
Road, tram and pedestrian overpass of 1,920 m closing the inner ring of Bucharest between Nicolae Titulescu Boulevard and Grozăvești Road. It crosses the Dâmbovița river and the throat of Gara de Nord. The cable-stayed section, designed by Javier Manterola and carried on two pylons of about 84 m with 60 cables, is 44.5 m wide, the widest cable-stayed bridge in Europe. Astaldi and FCC Construcción built it between November 2006 and June 2011 at a cost of about €255 million; it carries around 50,000 vehicles a day and Bucharest's only circular tram line.
