Craiova – Drobeta-Turnu Severin – Caransebeș railway rehabilitation

Design-and-build contract signed on 31 March 2026 with the TrackWorks association (Alstom Transport lead, Terna), RON 2,037,420,531.88 excluding VAT: 12 months of design, 42 months of works, 120 months of guarantee. CFR gives the lot as km 248+760 – km 286+735 and no works start date. Electrification at 25 kV, ERTMS level 2, freight at 100–120 km/h and passenger trains at 120–160 km/h. Length from the CFR chainage; the drawn line follows the existing track between the station areas.

Design-and-build contract signed on 20 July 2026 with the TrackWorks association (Alstom Transport lead, Terna), RON 1,800,131,764.37 excluding VAT: 12 months of design, 48 months of works, 120 months of guarantee. CFR gives the lot as km 286+735 – km 331+000 and no works start date. Length from the CFR chainage.

On 25 June 2026 CFR announced FCC Construccion S.A. as the designated winner with an offer of RON 5,166,618,843.00 excluding VAT; no contract signing has been published. The estimated contract value was RON 5,167.14 – 6,152.38 million excluding VAT. Planned duration 135 months: 12 months of design, 60 months of works, at least 60 months of guarantee, 3 months after final acceptance. CFR gives the lot as km 331+000 – km 362+632, including the links to the Prunișor and Drobeta Marfă stations and the Dudașu junction. Length from the CFR chainage.

Design-and-build contract signed on 23 June 2025 with the association of İçtaş İnşaat (lead) and Rotary Construcții Mentenanță, RON 2,309,944,931.12 excluding VAT: 12 months of design, 60 months of works, 120 months of guarantee. CFR gives the lot as km 362+632 – km 404+250, with seven existing tunnels rehabilitated (Moșu, Baba, Vir, Vârciorova, Bahna, Alion, Tufari) and a maximum speed of 100 km/h. CFR plans to close the Drobeta Turnu Severin – Caransebeș section to traffic from February 2027 to February 2032 for lots 4 to 6.

Design-and-build contract signed on 27 August 2025 with PORR Construct, RON 2,143,133,821.65 excluding VAT (CFR calls it the estimated total value): 12 months of design and 48 months of works, 60 months in all. CFR gives the lot as km 404+250 – km 436+887 (Cap X Băile Herculane – Cap X Nou Poarta halt), with the Rachitoberg tunnel (496 m) rehabilitated and the new double-track Poarta I tunnel (1,279 m) built, at a maximum speed of 100 km/h. CFR plans to close the Drobeta Turnu Severin – Caransebeș section to traffic from February 2027 to February 2032 for lots 4 to 6.

Design-and-build contract announced on 11 December 2025 with the association of İçtaş İnşaat (lead) and Rotary Construcții Mentenanță, RON 2,114,352,202.96 (CFR does not say whether VAT is included): 12 months of design, 60 months of works, 120 months of guarantee. CFR gives the lot as km 436+887 – km 474+046.53, with the Feneș and Tâmpa tunnels rehabilitated (Tâmpa widened), the new double-track Poarta 2 (550 m) and Poarta 3 (305 m) tunnels built, and a maximum speed of 120 km/h. CFR plans to close the Drobeta Turnu Severin – Caransebeș section to traffic from February 2027 to February 2032 for lots 4 to 6.
