Plovdiv – Burgas railway rehabilitation, Phase 2
Phase 2 of the rehabilitation of railway line 8 between Plovdiv and Burgas, run by the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC). The project is worth BGN 810.02 million, of which BGN 563.16 million is EU grant, and covers track renewal at Skutare – Orizovo, the new double-track Orizovo – Mihaylovo section with the Chirpan tunnel, works at Yambol – Zimnitsa and Straldzha – Tserkovski, signalling and ETCS, and the replacement of level crossings. Only the sections with a recorded extent and contractor are drawn here.

| Orizovo – Mihaylovo (double track, Chirpan tunnel) The single-track line with five intermediate stations becomes a double-track line with three stations (Orizovo, Chirpan, Mihaylovo) for 160 km/h, without level crossings, mostly on a new alignment. On 4 November 2025 NRIC reported 23.5 km of new track in service and 9.5 km still to come (33.0 km of new track in all). The 744 m Chirpan tunnel, bypassing Chirpan station, was fully excavated, with finishing works to follow; the NRIC project page gives 835 m. Contract value BGN 217,982,167 excluding VAT.
