Vidin – Sofia railway modernisation: Medkovets – Sratsimir
Modernisation of the Medkovets – Sratsimir part of the Vidin – Sofia railway, split by the infrastructure manager NRIC into two sub-sections of single electrified track: Medkovets – Dabova mahala (about 13 km) and Dabova mahala – Sratsimir (about 31 km). Both are design-and-build contracts signed in 2025 and co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility. The design speed is 160 km/h for passenger and 120 km/h for freight trains, against up to 70 km/h today. Other Vidin – Sofia sections are not yet recorded here.
