Plovdiv railway node modernisation

Modernisation of the railway lines around Plovdiv, where the lines to Burgas and to Svilengrad (the Turkish and Greek border) meet. The works cover track, overhead line, signalling and telecommunications, plus road overpasses and underpasses replacing level crossings. Two construction contracts: Plovdiv Central station with a road underpass beneath it, and the Plovdiv – Krumovo and Plovdiv – Skutare sections. NRIC gives the whole project value as EUR 103,477,234, of which EUR 87,955,649 from the Connecting Europe Facility. On 29 July 2026 NRIC reported about 90% of the station works done and planned both contracts to finish by the end of 2026.

Plovdiv Central station and underpass

Contract for track, overhead line, signalling and telecommunications in Plovdiv station and a road and pedestrian underpass beneath the station area. NRIC, 29 July 2026: about 90% of the planned station works done; the station is due to finish first, then the two pedestrian overpasses (November), then the underpass. Whole contract due by the end of 2026. NRIC gives no length or chainage; the drawn line covers only the station throat, from the west end of the OpenStreetMap station tracks to the east end of the station switches. Length measured from OpenStreetMap geometry. The line from Sofia (the Sofia – Plovdiv modernisation) ends at the west end of this lot.

Plovdiv – Krumovo and Plovdiv – Skutare sections

One contract covers both sections, so they are one lot: Plovdiv – Krumovo (towards Svilengrad) and Plovdiv – Skutare (towards Burgas), with the stations Plovdiv Razpredelitelna, Krumovo and Skutare and the Trakia junction post. Works: track, overhead line, signalling and telecommunications; six new platforms at Skutare, Trakia and Depoto and rebuilt platforms at Krumovo; three level crossings closed and three road overpasses built; relay interlocking at Skutare and Trakia replaced with computer interlocking. NRIC, 29 July 2026: due by the end of 2026. NRIC gives no length or chainage. The line drawn starts where the station lot ends and follows one track to Krumovo (9.3 km), plus the Skutare branch from the point where it leaves the Krumovo line east of Plovdiv (13.4 km); the 3.7 km shared stretch is counted once, in the Krumovo part. Length measured from OpenStreetMap geometry. The Skutare end is drawn at Skutare station, where bg-rail-plovdiv-burgas starts (Skutare – Orizovo), so the two do not overlap.
