Bratislava western railways: Devínska Nová Ves – Kúty – Czech border and Devínska Nová Ves – Marchegg
Modernisation of the two western ŽSR lines out of Bratislava, co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility. The Bratislava – Břeclav line, on the Orient/East-Med corridor, is rebuilt in three ŽSR projects: Devínska Nová Ves – Zohor – Malacky (under construction), Malacky – Kúty (design only) and Kúty – Czech border (finished in December 2025). The single-track Devínska Nová Ves – Marchegg line was electrified and modernised as part of the Twin City Rail link to Vienna; ŽSR gave early use on 6 October 2025. The Austrian side is ÖBB and is not included. A separate ŽSR study covers double-tracking Devínska Nová Ves – Marchegg; no works are recorded.

Sections
| Sections | Status | Length | Timeline | Cost | Funding | Contractors | Contract terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Devínska Nová Ves – Zohor – Malacky The section runs from sžkm 1.384 to 25.670 (length taken as the difference, 24.286 km; the drawn track is 24.9 km). One works contract of EUR 274,985,419.17 (VAT basis not stated) covers this section and Kúty – border and is not split between them, so no contract value is recorded on either lot. Progress to 31 March 2026: the contractor was securing building permits for the two construction sections UČS 01 and UČS 02; works began in autumn 2024 with tree felling, access roads, utility relocation and traction-pole foundations, and at Zohor a platform with a lift and underpass was about 90% built. Two road overbridges (Devínske Jazero and the Stupava – Vysoká pri Morave road) were due to open in May 2026. The ŽSR page gives the end of the project's main activities as 31 December 2026. In January 2026 the Záhorie local press reported that ŽSR expects passenger service to Brodské only after this section's closure ends, by the end of 2027. The construction start is recorded as 2024 only, from the page's "autumn 2024" for the first site works; the page also gives a project-level start of 1 January 2022. | Under construction | 24 km |

| Malacky – Kúty The ŽSR project covers the design documentation and permits for the 26 km between sžkm 25.670 (Malacky) and 51.524 (Kúty); the recorded length is the difference of those chainages. No works contract exists. Status at 30 June 2026: the land-ownership procedure was still running (due by November 2026 at the latest for Veľké Leváre) and a building permit with a finality clause was expected in April 2027; ŽSR was preparing the tender for a contractor. The design contract (EUR 6.79 million, VAT basis not stated) was signed on 19 November 2019; it is not a works award, so no award date or cost revision is recorded. The page also gives the design main activities as started on 20 November 2019 against an expected end of 31 August 2023. Spent to 30 June 2026: EUR 4.69 million. | Planned | 26 km | – | – |

| Kúty – Czech border (Brodské – Lanžhot) Kúty (outside the station) to the state border, sžkm 68.090–74.900 (6.81 km; the drawn track is 6.6 km). Works replaced the track superstructure and substructure, the overhead line and platforms, and built a new Morava bridge; one of the two new bridges entered service on 25 October 2023. The works contract of EUR 274,985,419.17 (VAT basis not stated) is shared with Devínska Nová Ves – Malacky and is not recorded per lot. In January 2026 trains ran at 120 km/h, with 160 km/h in the border section expected once ETCS is switched on; the Brodské stop had not yet passed its final approval (kolaudácia) and passenger trains did not stop there, buses replacing them. The 2016 grant page gives the project start as 9 September 2020 (the contract date), so no separate construction start is recorded. | Opened | 7 km |

| Devínska Nová Ves – Marchegg (state border), electrification ŽSR describes the project as modernising and electrifying the existing 2.38 km single track between Devínska Nová Ves and the Slovak–Austrian border (Marchegg), including renewal of existing bridges, to raise line speed from 80 to 120 km/h. It is part of Twin City Rail, which aims to link Vienna and Bratislava with a double-track electrified line and cut the journey from 67 to about 40 minutes. The drawn track runs from the junction where the line leaves the Zohor line (the first 2 km out of Devínska Nová Ves station are drawn once, under Devínska Nová Ves – Zohor – Malacky) to the border at the Morava and measures 1.8 km, shorter than the stated 2.38 km, which is the ŽSR figure for the project and is kept. The ŽSR page gives 18 January 2023 as the start of the project's main activities, before the works contract, so no construction start is recorded; the planned end was 17 April 2025 and the recorded end 17 January 2026. Spent to 30 June 2026: EUR 13.56 million of all sources, not an outturn. The grant total of EUR 14.13 million is not the works price. | Opened | 2 km |
